Trinidad is the best preserved colonial town in Cuba, it’s one of those places that look like came out of a fairytale.

If you are planning to go to Cuba visiting this UNESCO Heritage Site should be a must! It is less touristy than La Habana and Varadero and you can feel the Cuban essence even more!

Trinidad can be reached by bus or by taxi but the easiest and fastest way is by taxi. I was coming from La Habana and it took around 4 hour drive. There’re plenty of taxis offering the service from most cities, it could be shared or private either way always ask for the fare before and see if it works for you, they usually negotiate the price.

In a previous post I shared a complete travel guide to Cuba that you can check out in this link. I didn’t say much about Trinidad before so right now I want to tell you some of the things you can do in this cute little town to make the best out of your time.

• Get lost and wander around town

Trinidad is a small town so is pretty easy to explore all of it by foot. Every corner it’s picture worth it surrounded by colonial buildings, full of color, cobblestone streets and old cars… you can’t forget your camera! Keep in mind to spend some time in Plaza Mayor, is one of the most historical points of the city and where most of the action happens, is great to take a walk here around sunset and it’s really fun at night.

• Playa Ancón

Just a few miles away from the center of Trinidad is Playa Ancón (Ancón Beach). It’s perfect for a day or half day trip, there’re hotels there if you want to stay but a day trip could be enough. There’re a lot of taxis offering the service to and from Playa Ancón and is around $6-$8 depends on your driver, there’s also a bus available but it takes longer.

• Dance salsa and have a mojito at Casa de la Música

It’s located really close to Plaza Mayor and the atmosphere is really cool at night. It can get a little busy but who doesn’t want to dance some salsa with that Cuban flavor! Every night this open-air venue offers live music and a lot of happy locals and travelers having a great time. The entrance fee is around $3 after 7pm.

• Visit the Museo Nacional de la Lucha Contra Bandidos

When you go all the way up to the tower the view of Trinidad is incredible! And if you are interested to learn about the independence Cuban process this is a good place to do it, “Museo Nacional de la Lucha Contra Bandidos” translated in English is the National Museum of the fight against the Bandits. They also have cool souvenirs for sale inside. You have to pay a small fee for the entrance.

• Horse riding 

A fun way to go a little outside of Trinidad and explore the valley and maybe a waterfall near by like we did. Just make sure is not super hot outside because it’s a little uncomfortable and you won’t enjoy the horse ride that much. The earlier the better and don’t forget sunscreen and a bottle of water.
