Not so far from the city there’s a place where you can have a break from the stressful days, a reset that many of us need sometimes, a fulfilling vacation, an escape to a little piece of heaven… this place is The Retreat.
The Retreat is a luxury boutique hotel located in Atenas Costa Rica, around 45 minutes drive from San Jose, its name fits perfectly with what they want you to experience. They describe it as a place that will transform you: the way you eat, the way you think, the way you live and let me tell you that’s exactly what happens when you get to discover this magical space.
The moment I arrived to The Retreat I felt like I was entering into a hidden paradise, mountains everywhere, its surroundings are all green, you can hear the sound of the cicadas and the birds singing in the background, it’s hard to believe there is such place so close to the city. (You can see more of my experience on my Instagram highlights: travel_with_jennats).
They started to spoil me since the first minute, I was welcomed with a delicious buffet breakfast (before your arrival they ask you if you have any food restrictions or any special requests for any meal).
Their concept is ‘A la minuta’ which means they prepare your food right at the moment and besides that they use fresh and organic products, no dairy, gluten free, no refined sugars or processed grains enjoying a farm-to-table experience. Lunch and dinner were just as good or even better, the chefs at The Retreat really prove you that healthy food doesn’t mean boring or tasteless. Their food is amazing, I couldn’t stop eating the whole time I was there 😛
Right after breakfast I went for a Watsu therapy at the pool. Watsu is a gentle form of body therapy performed in warm water, movement of stillness alternate with rhythmical flowing movements which free the body in ways impossible on land, it’s like meditating in water! It was my first time doing Watsu and I totally loved it, it’s so relaxing and a perfect way to start your day. Check on my Instagram highlights: travel_with_jennats to see a little more of it.
The heaven on earth treatment at the spa is another thing I loved, a massage is always a good idea and Natalia was so nice and did an excellent job. After those amazing 60 minutes I took an outdoor shower, how cool right? The Retreat really thinks about every detail.
They are about to open a new spa Vida Mia, a healing center and spa, all the products will be chemical free, organic and made locally. The place is looking so good, I can’t wait for their opening!
The Retreat is the perfect getaway to do by yourself, with your partner or with your girlfriends. There’s a lot of things to do from yoga everyday, spa treatments, hikes, relaxing in the outdoor jacuzzi with a stunning view or simply lay by the pool with a good book; no matter what you do, your time there will meet your expectations and more, it really is a little piece of heaven, Diana Stobo made an amazing job creating this magical place in Costa Rica.
I was so pampered during my time there, they really take care of every little detail so you can have the most pleasant stay. The energy you feel the moment you get there, the nicest staff and exceptional service, the connection you feel with nature… it’s hard to leave The Retreat once you get to experience it!
Thank you to The Retreat and all the staff for a lovely stay, as you might know and I have mentioned before I never recommend anything I don’t like or enjoy and this place should be in your bucket list, I promise you won’t regret it, I can’t wait to go back!
